HERitage emBODYment

The Dean of Humanities and the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures cordially invite you to a two-day event featuring HERitage emBODYment, a culturally informed, community-engaged performance and workshop exploring expressions of Egyptian and Nubian identities through cultural heritage.

On Friday, February 27, co-founders Dr. Sarah Fahmy and Nabra Nelson will present excerpts from their performance Sekhmet Unraveled and discuss how Egyptian and Nubian collections in U.S. museums—from New York to San Francisco—inspired the work. The performance and conversation invite reflection on museum collecting histories and on how objects displayed behind glass shape experiences of heritage.
On Saturday, February 28, Sarah and Nabra will lead an interactive workshop using devised theatre practices, writing, and movement exercises to explore how museum artifacts affect their own cultures and shape personal experiences of heritage in the United States.
