Global Antiquity and East Asia
The study of ancient East Asia is often dominated by the ancient Chinese state, an institution of remarkable size and complexity that, in many ways, dwarfed its contemporaries elsewhere across the globe.
The success and the spread of this cultural paradigm have led scholars affiliated with the Cunard Center to identify new centers based, for example, in the areas of modern Cambodia, Japan, Korean, and Vietnam. Alongside this interregional connectivity, long-distance trade networks, such as the Silk Road, spanned continents and encourage transregional comparison.
