Faculty Grants
2026 Call for Applications for Global Antiquity Faculty Fellowship Awards
Global Antiquity announces a call for applications for Faculty Fellowship Awards. These grants are awarded to UCLA ladder faculty members affiliated with Global Antiquity who wish to conduct research on ancient worlds. For faculty members who are interested but not yet affiliated, we would be delighted to welcome you, and we invite you to email Dr. Jonathan Winnerman, the Associate Director of Global Antiquity, at jwinnerm@ucla.edu.
Supported research may include comparative approaches to antiquity, topics on the periphery of traditional fields of inquiry, and research that frames ancient worlds to address fundamental queries relevant to the Humanities today. This contribution may take the form of a book project, article, edited volume, series of community outreach presentations, or an interdisciplinary project. Any publications or outreach resulting from this research should then acknowledge Global Antiquity.
4 to 8 successful applicants will be awarded with grants in the amount of $2,500 to $5,000 that shall be disbursed as a lump sum. For research projects that include participation in conferences, site visits, or other travel, please note that these trips must be conducted in official coordination with other academic institutions or organizations. Funds shall be used during the 2026–2027 academic year with a utilization deadline of June 30th, 2027.
Eligible recipients are all UCLA ladder faculty members whose work pertains to ancient studies. It is recognized that “ancient” may refer to vastly different chronological ranges when applied to different geographic areas and that what qualifies as ancient studies is field specific. Yet, applications should still clearly demonstrate relevance to ancient worlds or their reception. To apply, faculty should submit the following items as a single PDF document:
- A cover page containing the faculty member’s full name, title, UID, department, and email address;
- A paragraph explaining how this fellowship will support faculty research for the upcoming academic year (2026–2027), how it will further the goals of Global Antiquity, and how the research will be shared and distributed;
- A short description of the research to be supported by the award;
- A brief, itemized budget;
- A current CV.
This PDF application package should be submitted to Dr. Jonathan Winnerman, Associate Director of Global Antiquity, at jwinnerm@ucla.edu by Wednesday, May 20 at 5:00 pm. Recipients shall be notified in June before the end of the fiscal year.
Please note that recipients may be asked either to participate in Global Antiquity’s Faculty Lunch Series during the 2026–2027 academic year or to submit a one-page summary of their research that also details the intended method of distribution (a monograph, article, workshop, etc.). A short bio and description of this research may also be featured on the Global Antiquity webpage.
