New Transdisciplinary Job Posting – Department of Classics, NYU

Published: October 30, 2023

The Department of Classics at New York University invites applications for a position at the rank of assistant professor (tenure-track), to begin September 1, 2024. This position is a part of a multi-departmental cluster hire in Comparative Antiquities that includes the Departments of Classics, Comparative Literature, Art History, Hebrew & Judaic Studies, and East Asian Studies. This cluster is an exciting new initiative, reflecting the growing awareness that the separation of ancient cultures into discrete disciplinary units is a substantial hindrance to our proper understanding of antiquity. The department is thus seeking a scholar of Greek literature whose work also sets it in the context of other ancient cultures, for example the Ancient Near East, Egypt, Nubia, South Asia, or China. It welcomes applicants working in any field of Greek literature but is especially interested in people working in literature of the archaic period.
