Drs. Mileto and Vegas are Professors of Architecture and Historic Preservation at the Universitat Politècnica de Valencia, and directors of the research group Res-Arquitectura: Research, Conservation, and Dissemination of Architectural Heritage. They are also current Getty Scholars, housed in the Getty Conservation Institute. Focusing on earthen materials in the built environment, like the use of rammed earth or tile vaulting, Mileto and Vegas take an innovative approach to architecture and its restoration that begins with in-depth research through multidisciplinary methods. They will discuss various fascinating case studies from their practice, including medieval and modern examples from Spain that exemplify the art of using earthen materials, an area of Spanish architectural history which is often overlooked.
