The UCLA Department of Art History presents an exciting workshop entitled “Does technology alter our conception of conservation ethics?” led by Professor Maximiliaan Martens.

In a paper published in 2015 (https://doi.org/10.4000/ceroart.4765), Maximiliaan Martens argued that ethics in conservation of works of art ought to be considered as evolving rather than static. The availability of new technology allows for reconsidering established practice. The workshop will address the important issue of how technologies challenge our notions of professional ethics in conservation.

The panel will include interventions by Thiago Puglieri, Meredith Cohen, and Rachel Weiss.

Moderators include Gregory Harwell and Bronwen Wilson. We thank them as well as Professor Martens for sharing their expertise in this subject matter.

The presentation will take place on Monday, May 8 from 2-4 PM in Dodd Hall 146, with a light reception to follow.
